While much of Idaho is quite rural, our neighbors to the East have created quite a burgeoning Internet scene, and this week much of the focus is on mergers.

Bro-Net, Inc. and BondAgent, L.L.C., both Coeur d'Alene-based companies, have entered into a merger agreement, effective immediately.

BondAgent L.L.C. will be a wholly owned division of Bro-Net, Inc. and continue to exist as an Idaho L.L.C. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bro-Net, Inc., established in June 1998 develops online content management and publishing technologies for vertical markets. The company will add BondAgent's Internet bond brokerage to its offerings.

"All of the employees of both companies are looking forward to the synergies created by the merger," said Mark A. Nilson, Chairman and CFO of Bro-Net, Inc.

One hundred and fifty miles to the west, in Nampa, Micron Electronics recently signed a major deal merging with Atlanta-based Interland, Inc.

The combination of Interland and Micron Electronics' web hosting subsidiary, HostPro, will create a new hosting company, providing business-class hosting solutions to the small and medium enterprise market.

Micron will sell its non-hosting businesses, Micronpc.com and SpecTek, and the combined hosting company, to be named Interland, will be headquartered in Atlanta.

"Today's announcement marks a major step toward completion of a process we began more than two years ago to transform Micron Electronics from a traditional PC manufacturer to an Internet-centric computing company with hosting as a core strategic business," said Micron Electronics Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Joel J. Kocher. "Hosting will serve as the foundation for many opportunities as SMEs increasingly outsource IT. This merger strategically positions us to take advantage of all the aspects of the Third Wave of computing, as the real power of computing moves from the desktop to the network."
