the Kyoto Protocol is based on a group of international scientists who have pooled their knowledge to determine if global warming is indeed man-made or not. After two reports, the group states that "the balance of evidence suggests a discernable influence on the global climate " and global warming is "unlikely to be entirely due to natural causes." ALL OTHER NATIONS have ratified the KYOTO PROTOCOL, which means that they have all agreed to reduce emissions sets target reductions for each country. The U.S., for example, had a target of 5% reduction by 2008-2012, (the U.S. emits over 30% of all greenhouse gases). The U.S. withdrew its support, citing, "potential harm to the economy," even though 122 Nations, or 44% of all remaining CO2 greenhouse emissions, had signed on the bottom line. It is time for the government to start giving BUSINESSES who make our planet a noxious waste chemical dump INCENTIVES to turn this around. Hybrid cars in all garages of the U.S. do not compare to industrial emissions. Why doesn't anyone ask presidential candidates about this and hold their feet to the fire?Because the U.S.A knows that if under the Kyoto Protocol, it achieve the goals of the treaty, but it would have to take some major sacrifice. It would involve reducing the addiction to oil and force America to be more dependable on alternate energies.
Many other countries have ratified the treaty and they are doing just fine.
Economy or Environment. Both are feasible because they are so many alternate energies that it is possible to use these energies to fully sustain the energy demand of America instead of adhering to oil lobbyists and corporations. Plus, using environment friendly energies would not only help the environment, but it would potentially put a lot of people to work in supporting this movement.Did you know that the only country that has met its CO2 reduction goals from that protocol is Norway. It's ironic that Norway has done this with massive subsidies to industry from it's nationalized oil industry....doh!The stated reason that the US gives is that the Kyoto Protocol EXEMPTS "developing countries" like CHINA and INDIA from the restrictions.
This exemption for developing countries gives an unfair advantage to industries in those countries when compared to industry in the US -- access to cheap power. So China can drastically expand their green house gas emissions, e.g. coal fired electricity generation, and still meet its Kyoto responsibilities. However, the US actually will have to reduce their coal fired electricity generation to meet its "responsibilities" under the Protocol.
As I understand it the US would sign if all countries were given the same responsibilities."Bush has promoted improved energy technology as a means to combat climate change" ?When did this happen? I missed it!!?
"It is time for the government to start giving BUSINESSES who make our planet a noxious waste chemical dump INCENTIVES to turn this around. Why doesn't anyone ask presidential candidates about this and hold their feet to the fire?"
-Now that's a great question! I figure one answer is because people can't think outside the box far enough to realize the potential for our economy, ecology and health. Think bigger guys! The answers are there they just need more attention and concentration. Im not a millionaire or engineer but if I were......look out!Do U think the US could cut back on our energy use. Why sign an agreement that U can not do??Americans are smarter than people in other countries. Why should the U.S. join this treaty? What are the penalties for not joining? Or for not complying after joining? We can do our part without signing any international agreements. The U.S. doesn't need other countries setting standards for us to uphold. All other industrialized nations signed on, but virtually none are living up to their targets, which even their promotors generally agree are a joke.
So - you have a deal that everyone else is signed up for, nobody is honoring, and it won't get you anywhere....
How is the country that stayed OUT of it the one that looks foolish??#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
