Top 50 HVAC Contracters and Engineers in the DC Metro area

  • I am a sales engineer for an HVAC equipment manufacturer that makes equipment such as chillers, air handlers, rooftop units, etc. Given that I am new at my job, I would like to obtain a list of the contact information for the top 50 mechanical contractor companies and top 50 engineering companies by how much of this equipment they process each year. My geographical limits are the Washington DC area ie. Northern Virginia, Montgomery & Prince Georges county in maryland, everything inside of Rt. 495...that general idea. I cannot use anything in the Baltimore area as that is a different territory. My desire in this is to find larger companies that do not have a dedicated salesman already and to become their representative. I would like the company name, address, and phone number so that I can compare them to our current account lists and contact them if they are not already represented. To remove some companies, I am not looking for general contractors such as Clark or Skanska. I want companies that either directly purchase HVAC equipment or design a building using it. For examply, two large mechanical contractors are W.L. Gary Inc. and John J. Kirlin Inc. Two large engineers are Tolk Inc. and HSMM. Please contact me with any additional questions you may have to clarify.

  • pafalafa, I did check out the site. Unfortunately, it doesn't really have the depth or accuracy that I'm looking for. Many of the companies listed on that site have very little to do with HVAC being structural contractors and the like and I saw some architects as well. There were a few (4 or so) companies that do do HVAC work, but that's all. I appreciate you finding the link, but it's not what I'm looking for. Regarding your advice to click on the 'HVAC' link, that gives you companies, but they're located all over the US with only one company from the DC area. Did my original explanation give you enough details to know what I'm looking for? Please contact me with any questions you may have to help continue this project. Thank you, Dave

  • Hey Dave, This site looks good from the contracting side. I've looked through the listing a bit and it definitely looks like we already do business with some of the larger companies, so that means this is the kind of list I was looking for. Thank you. Have you been able to find anything on the Consulting/Mechanical Engineering side? A couple of companies in the area are Tolk, Vanderweil Engineers, US Army Corp of Engineers, Smith Group, Affiliated Engineers, and Metropolitan Engineering. Many times they do HVAC, Plumbing, and Ducting all combined. I hope this helps to narrow the field down some. Thank you, Dave

  • OK, Dave (which is my name too, by the way), let's try this link instead: http://payments.acca.org/ContractorLocator/index.php?zip=20016&code=C&WP%5B%5D=AC&WP%5B%5D=HT&WP%5B%5D=VT&MK%5B%5D=INST&MK%5B%5D=GOVT&MK%5B%5D=COMM&MK%5B%5D=INDU There's well over 100 firms listed here, all within a 50 mile radius of DC. They're not ranked by size, but note that each company listing includes an indication of the number of employees, which should certainly give you a feel for how large the company is. Have a look, and let me know how close (or not) this comes to what you need. Thanks, Dave

  • chilldave-ga, Funny you should ask, as I live in DC, am in the midst of some home construction work, and just had my HVAC guy in today! But even with knowing the territory a bit, it's still quite a challenge to amass a list of the top 50 (or 5 or 10), since most of these companies don't release data on their sales, purchasing, etc. Instead, you might want to consider comparing your existing list against some of the companies at this resource: http://www.usarchitecture.com/By_the_State/DC/DC.htm The link above is for the DC listings, but there are also listing for VA and MD as well. Note, also, that at the top of the page there are links to groups of companies in DC, such as HVAC, Heavy Equipment, Mechanical, etc. Poke around here, and let me know if this is the sort of resource you need. Thanks, pafalafa-ga

  • Getting closer! Take a look at these links: The first lists the largest contstruction projects in MD, along with the engineering firms involved: http://www.mddailyrecord.com/pdfs/topconsproj2004.pdf Tolk is listed once, Vanderweil four times. Again, this isn't a hard and fast ranking, but it certainly shows you who's currently active on big projects in the area. The second list is here: http://stage.csemag.com/info/CA497690.html and is just a handy-dandy list of ME firms around the country. You can easily search it for firms in VA or MD (I didn't see any in DC), although I see that Vanderweil is actually listed in far-off Boston, MA. Let me know if these are useful to you. paf

  • Dave, Just checking in. Have you had a chance to look at the link I provided (above)? Was it of use to you? Let me know when you have a chance. pafalafa-ga
