Help! Word 2000 closes constantly

I am running Word 2000 on WIndows Vista. I did not order the latest Office suite, but a 60 day trial is operating on my machine. The problem is that when I use Word 2000 the program closes on me constantly. HELP!!!!

You have 2 versions of Word? - that a no-no. Remove the eval version of Office 2007 if you dont want it.

Contrary to previous replies you are allowed to have more than one version of recent versions of Word on the same machine. On the machine I am using now I have both 2003 and 2007. Only one version can be used at a time but the older version must be installed first. When you want to switch versions you must close the version you are now using and open the second version. Word will automatically go through a setup program to open the second version. This may take a minute or two.

When Word constantly closes unexpectedly, I suspect that normal.dot, which is the template for all new documents, is corrupt. Go to Go to Start/Run and type in "winword.exe /a" without the quotes. There is a space before the slash.

This starts Word without your normal.dot which is the template for all new docs. If everything works now either normal.dot is corrupt or some add-in is causing the problem.

Since this only happens with new docs I'm betting on the corrupt template. If this is the problem, with Word closed, press Win key + F and do a search for normal.dot. You must set the parameters to search in hidden folders because that's where this template is. Delete all occurrences of normal.dot (there may be more than 1) and restart Word. Word will create a new normal when it doesn't find one.
