Keep having panic attacks, don't know what to do?

  • A few weeks ago, I had just smoked some pot, and my heart rate started beating really fast. I thought I was having a heart attack, but realized that since there was no pain I was fine. It turned out to be a panic attack. Since then, I have had so many less-serious panic attacks. They come and go for almost no reason. I have not smoked pot, cigarettes, or consumed any alcohol since that first episode, thinking that was the trigger. This morning, I woke up and had a pretty serious panic attack. What happens when these attacks come:
    I get shortness of breath
    I feel dizzy/light headed
I get a very panicked feeling in my chest
    I breath very lightly/quickly

I try to calm myself down and tell myself "its just another stupid panic attack" but it doesn't always work.

    Any suggestions?

  • Try seeing a specialist, get some medication to slow your heart beat.

  • Have you tried any of these programs:

    Hope this helps...

  • Practical ways to help anxiety are:

Drink ice cold water, it hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows the heart down.

I take propanalol to ease the shaking and slow my heart down. Its a beta blocker.

Breathe in for 4 and out for 4, put your hand on your tummy and when you breathe in push the hand out. This is to make sure you are breathing deeply. Do this for a while until you feel calmer.

Focus on every little small minute detail around you. If you look at a chair, notice the bolts in it, the texture of the fabric, the smallest detail in the pattern etc.

I learnt these at a private psych hospital i was in.

Valarian root is a natural sedative used to treat anxiety and insomnia. You can buy it in health shops or online.

I hope this helps!! and get some counseling as the other techniques will only help short term, they wont stop you getting the anxiety attacks.

If you are depressed try St Johns Wort but if you are Female and on THE PILL it will stop this working.

If you cant sleep you can buy Valarian root fron health shops or online, its a natural sedative used to treat anxiety and insomnia.

    Good luck !!

  • Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
If you're unable to take St John's Wort, you can substitute it with Siberian Ginseng or Licorice Herb.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....
