KarstadtQuelle: E-business Quadrupled to $420 Million
The volume of online orders more than quadrupled, reaching 880 million German marks (US $420 million). In the previous year, the volume reached only 214 million marks (US $ 102 million). The target figure of 700 million marks (US $ 334.61 million) was thus exceeded by 25 percent. These are only preliminary figures, however, as sales growth was slightly slower in the fourth quarter than it was in the first nine months of the year.
In "stationary retail", 169 specialist store branches had a turnover of 1.1 billion German marks, an increase of 4.8 percent (4.7 percent in like-for-like sales). In mail-order sales, which includes the business of the Quelle group and the Neckermann group, the company announced a sales increase of 3.1 percent to 14.6 billion German marks (US $ 6.97 billion). In the previous years, the turnover was 14.2 billion marks (US $ 6.78 billion).
The C&N Touristic group, which is not consolidated in the group turnover
(financial year of November 1, 1999 to October 31, 2000), showed good
business development particularly in the months of September and
October, and it increased its group turnover 7.3 percent to 9.7 billion
German marks ( US $ 4.63 billion) (it was 9.1 billion marks in the previous
year). Without the inclusion of Havas Voyages, the French travel company
that was taken over in the middle of 2000, the growth in sales totals 5.7
percent. The number of guests of C&N operators grew 6.4 percent to 9.8
million.
