Pumatech Shows Net Sync

Pumatech Inc. has announced its Sync-it component that will allow synchronization by handhelds and other devices via the Internet.

Sync-it is a component of the company's Mobile Application Platform (MAP). Other elements of MAP include Browse-It, which enables viewing of Web content on Palm handhelds, and Mind-It, which notifies users when changes are made to Web content.

The company said in a statement that Sync-it uses a so-called hub-and-spoke model that provides a server-based data repository from which users can synchronize data to any device such as handhelds, laptops, Net-ready phones and PCs.

Based on UNIX, the company said Sync-it is "massively scalable." It supports the SyncML initiative, which is an industry attempt to standardize how synchronization is done.
