some questions about the installation
here are my questions about the OP2 installation/setup (windows 2000 pro):
1) odbc-driver: the setup program doesn't detect my driver, but i continued anyway. i installed the MDAC-stuff (2.8) as well as the Jet-Engine (4.0 sp8), but that didn't help either. in the Data-Sources (odbc)-Dialog, I have multiple instances of the Access odbc drivers (mdb). i the other threads in this forum about the subject, but could not find a solution so far.
2) windows startup: the OP-tray icon doesnt show up automatically. is this supposed to be like this or is there a setting for it to always show up? does the firewall run anyway or is this just a trial mode restriction?
3) local network setup: i'm connected through an broadband router to the internet. the router itself has the ip 192.168.0.1, my other pcs have ips 192.168.0.xx. what's the recommended system setup in OP for my system? just autodetect? or trust the whole 192.168.0.xx network (including the router ip) or just the range 192.168.0.2-255 (excluding the router)?
btw: I uninstalled sygate personal firewall before installing OP - is there anything else i should do/have done?
thanks in advance
Thank you for your welcome.
No I didn't have any firewall before on this computer. In fact I was hesitating between Outpost and Look'n'Stop.
So I'm trying the first one, and if I still have problem with it, I'll try the second one.
I do so for both my work and my friends and family.
I read the two pages you advised me but nothing deals with my problem, as far as I understand.
Maybe someone else has the answer... :(
Regards,
Lim

Check the language you used from MS web site and see if you downloaded the right language and Versions for Windows 2000. Also you might try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Start Outpost then open the GUI Click on Option>General tab and make sure OutPost is set to Start in Normal Mode. There is no restriction for the Trial Mode of OutPost.

toasted I am still new to Routers I will have to let some one else answer this question.

Please uninstall OutPost and do a clean check for any remnants of OutPost and Sygate and remove them following Davids thread here. (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7188) There have been several posts here of probelms with more than one FireWall Installed or remnants from another FireWall still being on your computer causing problems.
Please post back and let us know your results.
One other thing have you did a scan of your computer with an update AntiVirus scanner. You can also go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and do a free online scan.

Nothing is written in MSConfing or in HKLM/.../Run :(Limerick,
Are you running any software that monitors or prevents alterations to the Windows Registry? (like System Safety Monitor or any registry watcher program). If so, you must tell it to allow the alterations that Outpost makes when you change Startup mode.
For details on the effects of LAN Settings I would suggest you check the Outpost Rules Processing Order (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8394) FAQ thread. For a standalone PC, I would suggest removing all entries and clearing the Auto-Detect box to ensure that Outpost doesn't add any new ones. For a LAN, enable NetBIOS for file/printer sharing - avoid Trusted if you can since any application not specifically blocked will have access to the Trusted Zone (and with the upcoming Outpost 2.1, even Blocked Applications can access the Trusted Zone).

Hello,
My problem is with the 2.5.370 version.
Outpost refuses to Start in Normal Mode. Even if I reboot just after checking that mode.
Nothing is written in MSConfing or in HKLM/.../Run :(
Does anybody have an idea ?
Thank you.
Lim.

Hello Limerick, Welcome to the Forum:)
Please see Outpost 2.5 - what to expect (http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11836).
Did you have any other FireWall installed before installing OutPost. If so please see 1.
