Hit & Run - What are the consequences?

  • I am in Alberta, Canada. This evening someone backed up into my car and left the scene. A (wonderful) witness got the license plate and a description for me. What are the penalties for leaving the scene of an accident?

  • I am with MA on this one. Usually a person runs because they are unable to drive ( as in being drunk) or are lacking ins or their drivers license is suspended. I hope that catch the jerk off who did that to you. I also had someone hit my car and the person was never found.

  • One could lose his license, his insurance could skyrocket, and he/she would endure a hefty fine. Depending on his/her driving status, they may face minor jail time. I guessing they fled because they had no business driving to begin with.
