I checked with a Lapidary, he said he has been through this for years, people coming to him to have their raw stones cut for mounting. He stated he would not touch them, that the mining sites are all scamming people and there is nothing that can be done. When you find the stones and have one cut there, they take you stone and tell you they will have THEIR LAPIDARY cut it and send it to you in 8 - 10 weeks. What they actually do is take the stone you found and replace it with a gem they have already purchased and not a good quality one. They are making money hand over foot, day in and day out. WHAT A SHAME!!!!! Just wanted to share my unfortunate experience and hope someone else doesn't get taken like I DID..If you have proof that this is what happened, you should report them to the Attorney General's office. I complained to them about a credit card company and got action. Hopefully, you got a quote in writing from this place on how much your gem was worth so you could match it with the quote from the lapidary who told you it was worth nothing. Then you could call them on "switching it".
I did go to the Herkimer Diamond Mines around Rome, New York. Their diamonds are real. My mother found one and we had it made into a necklace. It's not worth thousands but was worth around $120 dollars. Happens all the time, they "salt" the mines with worthless stones so the tourists can "find" something
We have the same tourist traps here with people panning for gold in streams that have been salted with pyrite (fools gold)LOL. You just can't cheat people enough. Also read the stories at http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/...#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
