Please help my relationship?

My boyfriend and I have been together for three and a half years but just 2 months ago his dad passed away. We went through it together and myself being a bit of a demanding person, had to die down on my complaining. But just yesterday he came to me and said that he thinks that he doesn't love me anymore and I was shocked and heartbroken. I never would have imagined this coming but he has very specific needs (hes embarrassed easily, very concerned with the people around him, etc.) And honestly I wasn't being as sensitive to his needs as I should of been. But when we began talking we came down to the conclusion that neither of us were sure what was going to happen because I said I could change these issues for the better of the both of us.

He is a wonderful person. Amazing, and I care for him as much as a 16 year old could and I know for a fact that he cares likewise for me. We have decided to not cut off the relationship, but just to see where it winds up. We are going to spend time with one another in a couple of days but in a more relaxed atmosphere, but we may end up breaking up.

The thing is is that he has wanted to talk to me everyday since the incident and he still wants to hang out so I would love to hear any tips or suggestions for showing him this new change without wavering into the friends zone, in other words I feel like I need to show him I am there for him AND that i can still be his girlfriend, in an easier going, more relaxed atmosphere.
