Hi all... my two week old son's umbilical cord is still attached. I was told to just keep it dry and not use alcohol or anything. Just to keep it dry and let it fall off on its own. Well I use Pampers Swaddler's which come up pretty high. I noticed today during a diaper change that there was a little brown mark that corresponded with where his cord is. I checked his cord, its still there and it looks dry with no pus or anything but it looks like it might be pulling away slightly at the top but still attached elsewhere. Ive been told that when cords fall off the area can be a bit bloody so Im wondering if thats what the mark was. Should I keep the diaper folded down? Should I keep an eye on it? Is this normal?
You SHOULD be putting alcohol on it every diaper change and I would keep it covered too (with diaper) so that it doesn't snag on his clothing. If you were putting alcohol it would have fallen off by now.
The alcohol doesn't hurt or harm them. It dries it out faster and kills germs and bacteria to prevent infection.yes my midwife told me I may notice a bit of brown blood staining. Yes I would fold the diaper down if you can. Just keep an eye on it sounds like you know what you are doing. Congrats on the babyi just had my first baby 3 months ago and i freaked out when i seen his cord bleeding too. dont worry its ok i talk to my dr n he said its just getting readdy to fall off. he also recomened getting it wet when he was bathing. eventually it will shrivel up and fall off!! dont worryyes it's normal for there to be weird brownish or bloody ooze. it could be blood or it could be the stump disintegrating. it's gross but normal. as long as there is no pus and the stump smells normal it's ok. if it smells funny, gets red and infected looking then you have a problem. what youve been told is correct about just leaving it alone. #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
