web site ranking in Google has dissapeared

  • My web site www.kinkydisco.net used to be ranked highly by Google when searching for'Kinky Disco'. Now www.kinkydisco.net is not even listed at all. What has happened?

  • Good Day kinkydisco-ga, Before I answer your question, please keep in mind: There are very few people in this world that KNOW Google's algorithm. Us Google researchers are not included in that small group. This means that my answer will be based on what the SEO (search engine optimisation) community has learned about Google's ways, and not on scientific information derived from the algorithm or behind the scenes knowledge. There is a good reason why the algorithm is secret, and why no one can just give a magic answer that will work 100%. I have done some searching. Here are the results: SEARCH TERM SERP* TOTAL RESULTS ----------- ----- ------------- www.kinkydisco.net Page #1 Result #1 1 kinky disco 700+ 46,100 "kinky disco" Page #1 Result #5 340 *Search Engine Result Page For future reference, please make a note of ://www.google.com/ie?num=100 This address will give you a quick overview of the first few hundred search matches on Google. Rather then going through pages of 10 results each, you can view 100 results per page in condensed format. This is how I searched for the terms in the table above, and within a minute or two knew that searching for kinky disco does not bring up your site within the first 700+ results. The good news is you are still in Google. You did not get banned for any reason. From the sounds of it, you did fall significantly for the search term kinky disco. This could be due to an index update, or algorithm change. For a while my page was on page 11 for a relevant search term, then moved up to page 10, couple of days later I was on page 3, and then I was gone. For a few days I could not find my website through searching for the relevant search terms. A week later or so, I was back in the listings on page two. Also, with more and more websites added to the World Wide Web, each keyword becomes more and more competitive every day. Where once no effort was required to get a good listing, now SEO is required. Google recalculates page relevance on daily basis, new pages get added, indexes get updated and swapped, and in the end search results will change. The next part will give you some tips on achieving a better listing for relevant key words. Probably the highest value for keywords comes from your page title. If you want to be found for specific terms or keywords, your first step is to make sure that those terms are in your page title. This is not the case with your current home page and making this change alone could get you to the top ten results! I recommend this as your first change. Keywords and terms should be reinforced throughout the text on the page itself. They should be used in the body of the text. This is very important. Keywords in the page title that do not show up in the body of the text can hurt your rankings. Many people have used irrelevant keywords in titles and meta tags, in an effort to get traffic from some popular keyword searches. A keyword that appears only in the title or meta tags can be considered an attempt at tricking the search engine if not reinforced through use in the text body. With those two things taken care of, head off to dmoz.org and submit your website there. Google takes a lot of content from dmoz.org because it is edited by humans. This allows for higher quality content. With a listing in dmoz.org, your search result in Google will have some additional information included, namely the "Description" line. If you do a search on Google for any term, you will see that some pages have a "Description" included below the excerpt from the actual page. This is a result of a listing in dmoz.org. For more information on dmoz.org and how to submit to this directory, visit http://www.bytechcanada.net/resources/website-promotion.shtml . There you will find instructions and tips for submitting to dmoz.org, plus some other basic tips on website promotion.
