problem with recent build?

  • updated my xbmc from a november 2005 build (yes yes i know, i should have done it along time ago) - decided to go fresh, removed e:\tdata&udata. - setup xbmc, everything seems to be perfectly fine.

    however, i go into my videos libary, grab the info for them again, now whenever i set my view to "big icons" - the hdd thrashes constantly, so much so, videos are dropping frames and im experiencing bad playback.

    opened my log and it seems to be looking for a file thats not there.

    i ftp'd into the xbox, true no file to be seen, so i knock up a 1x1pixel file, call it overlaywatched.png - upload it hoping to provide a temp fix. however still constant hdd thrashing.

    whenever i choose the view to be big list or list its fine, no hdd thrashing, however when i choose icons or big icons i get this problem, what the hell is this file for?
    more so where can i get it?

    shane

  • thankyou so much, that explains everything.

    edit: those files fixed the hdd thrashing problem, however in this build video playback still dosent seem what it was..its fine for the first 10 mins, then afterwards frames drop etc, very strange, if i turn the video cache off in the video osd options menu, it cures it, yet i would imagine this could be a problem, i dont know too much but i thought video cache took some heat off the ram and cpu, kinda like buffering the video? therefore improving performance, or am i barking up the totally wrong tree?

    i got this binary from the usual place, therefore its a mass distributed compile, is anyone else experiencing video playback problems?\

    (video - 1.2gb mpeg 4 ffxmpeg encoded and ripped on mac os x tiger with handbrake and ffmpeg bitrate:1400)

  • sounds like a badly interleaved avi file of some sort. enable debug logging (hold x+y when xbmc starts), play the file then see if mplayer complains about anything in xbmc.log (it's a file in your xbmc directory).

  • - 25-03-2006 fixed: nonexistent thumbs and overlays would be searched for every frame.

    they are for indicating watched / unwatched status of a movie. try these;

  • thankyou, when i get a working controller (using remote) i will follow your instructions, for now i have just set video cache size to 0kb and its cured the problem.
