Problem with PC DVD-rom drive

since the original dvd-rom drive from my xbox never worked very well, i replaced it with a pc dvd-rom drive. i set the tag correctly in the .xml-file, and everything worked fine at first.

but recently i started having problems. when i insert a dvd or cd with avi-files, xbmc recognizes the dvd, sees the files on it, but more often than not, doesn't play them. when i click on one, xbmc pauses for a second, and then simply doesn't play it. the dvd drive doesn't even spin up. if i then insert a different dvd, xbmc does show the new dvd title, but it won't show any of the new files, it'll just keep showing the files that were on the first dvd, and obviously won't play them.

if i then restart xbmc, it'll see the dvd and correct files again, and will sometimes play them, sometimes not. same thing for original dvd-video discs. oddly enough, if i insert an xbox game (backup disc, of course, since a pc dvd-drive doesn't read originals), it does show the correct files.

the problem started a few weeks ago, and it still happens with the 20060323 t3ch build, which i'm running now.

the tag is set correctly. i've tried both settings for the tag (even though i don't think that one should have any effect). i've tried it both with the original xbox dvd-rom drive attached and detached. i've also tried it with two different pc dvd-drives, both of which work perfectly in a pc.

i don't know what else to try. anyone have any ideas? i think it's an xbmc problem, since i can always boot from game discs without problems. can anyone reproduce this? if so, i'll file a bug report.
