Optimiing fresh bought server.

  • Hi there!

    I just bought a new dedicated server and need some suggestions as to how to tune up my server, to be completely optimized for the vBulletin application.

    The specs are: Intel Pentium IV 2.6 Ghz, 2 Gb DIMM, SCSI.

    Please let me know what the best configurations would be so that the server would be running the application optimally.

    I haven't installed anything on the server yet, so ALL recomendations will be listened too very carefully.

  • 1. upgrade to latest 2.4.x linux kernel
    2. install apache 1.3.27
    3. install mysql 3.23.56 rpm binary should be released very soon as 3.23.55 has security bug
    4. install PHP 4.3.1 as a dynamic module --with-apxs and with at least zlib and gd2 support
    5. install php accelerator 1.3.x

    then post back here for some mysql fine tuning :D
