'MUST-INSTALL-PROGRAMS' for the server!!

  • Hi there,

Don't be angry as the title might have suggested to you that i have some excellent software to recommend to you. Actually it's the other way around, i need to know what programs one should definitely install to speed up things when using the php/mysql application vBulletin or any other php/mysql-app.

I know that phpaccelerator is quite good, but i need much more recommendations. Take a sec. to tell us about ur great finding.

    Thnx!

  • php accelerator

    for managing server whm/cpanel

and last but not least an app called 'eva2000' :D j/k

  • We all need an 'eva2000' for our servers ;)

  • I've heard of nothing but problems with PHP Accelerator. Personally, I can't get it working on my win2k machine with Apache without taking out the zlib module.
phpa doesn't work on windows it was made for windows ... http://www.php-accelerator.co.uk/download.php

I got the eva2003, much better.

  • One important thing to do with new servers, more important than installing additional add-on tools for optimization, is this: remove un-needed software, and disabe un-needed services.

Also, some times a downgrade is useful :) Many problems with phpAccelerator/Php/Apache/Redhat etc is for those who want the latest and greatest. But it's better to stick to the older versions, if they are stable, tested and have no security holes.

    Just my $0.02

  • In terms of web stuff, check out phpMyAdmin (http://www.phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin/).

It definately helps out with keeping tabs on your mysql db, browsing, etc..

  • Incorrect. Zend Optimizer is good for nothing beside running Zend encrypted scripts, otherwise it's a waste of server space.

Zend Accelerator on the other hand is good - but it costs in quadriple digits. While what's the optimal choice is PHP Accelerator (ioncube.com), which gets you 95% of what zend accelerator gives you, but for free.

Like I said, there are severe bugs with the eva2000. I Don't think they support such an old version, so you better just upgrade to eva2003 and get all the quirks fixed.

  • Use Zend Optimizer. It's easier to install, from what I hear, and gives about the same benefit

dam a new version out already? :D
