What else can i research for this...?

  • I have ancestors who were builders from a small town in Scotland. There seems to be a strong line of builders in my family throughout the 19th Century.
What other records could i investigate. What other records might've been kept from that period, which would give me more info about their salaries, their work, what they built, where they did their building work, etc.?

  • You have to be more specific... 19th century is very vague.
Go back to your original documentation, for name, date, place. Once you have the location (not just Scotland), then you can pursue what might be there.
Overall, there may be vital records, church records, court documents. You MIGHT be able to find a history of the area which includes them by name.
Without an exact date/ place, all anyone can do, is guess.

  • your first step is to go to places like governement and equire there, they may help you

  • The best place to look would be local Directories. There were directories of businesses long before Telephone Directories and nearly every person who had a trade would have advertised in them. Potential customers would consult the directory and send a servant to arrange a visit.
hesewill be held at local libraries and local history centres.
Once you find where they were, you can check out the libraries for any documents or items that might relate to them. They could even be mentioned in local newspapers.
