"who are we and who is responsible for who we are"?

  • this question was asked by a woman in office. im not sure who, but it was the most intelligent question i ever heard a woman ask.

  • I am me, and nobody else is willing to take the blame for that.

  • Genetics, and how you are raised.

  • 'Who are we' is far too vague a question to be answered meaningfully. The woman asking the question doesn't state to whom she is referring with the pronoun 'we', or what aspect of our (or 'their' if I'm not included in 'we') identity is being questioned.
As for responsibilities, most of the factors influencing what sort of person you become are unforeseeable, and hence beyond the responsibility of any person. There are some aspects of a person that can be shown as directly caused by someone else, but they're the exception rather than the rule.

  • this is me, and i love to travel :)

  • It strikes me as a useless question.

"What will you do?" strikes me as a useful question.

  • We are what we make of ourselves, which makes us responsible.

To an extent society is responsible, because if we don't watch out for each other some will be left with less opportunity, but for the most part we hold responsibility in the end. Some of us don't have it as easy as others but that doesn't mean we don't control our destiny.

  • I am becoming who I will be tomorrow, and the person I was yesterday is responsible for who I am today.

    Goo goo ga joob. ;)
