Roger Schmidt says religions answers "existential questions". What is existential question and example.?

  • Please help me with this one. This is one of the study guide question for my midterm in religious studies. Thanks

  • "Why am I here?' is the classic.

I also like "why does something exist, instead of nothing?"

  • "Exist"-ential. Questions about our existence. They are questions which have no rational answers, and can be really depressing if we dwell on them too long, lol. Why am I here? Is this all I am? What is the meaning of life? Are we alone in the universe? Is there some purpose I am supposed to fulfill? Is there life after death?

    Etc.

Religion does try to answer those questions, and as irrational and baseless as those answers may seem, a lot of people are satisfied with them.

  • existentialism...the belief that one exists. That no one else exists exactly the same. That YOU can't understand what I say, simply because you have not experienced the exact same existence as I have.

The question? WHY do we exist?

How would YOU say that religion answers that?

  • Existentialism is a branch of philosophy that discusses why we are here, what it is to be human, and the point of life. So this fellow is saying religion explains all that for us.

  • Existential questions deal with our existence.
    Quite simply:
    Why am I here?
How did all this come to be?
What is my purpose in life?

    Etc.
