Paroxetine, also known as Seroxat (a brand name for it) is an anti-depressant. It was contraindicated in the UK a year or two ago for serious side effects during the withdrawal phase, but that is only in a portion of the cases its prescribed to - not necessarily every one.
It belongs to the SSRI family of drugs which makes it very suitable for depression which invokes paranoia and anxiety.
