Squad selection

No real suprises in Svens latest squad..
I would've liked to have seen David Dunn selected though.

Well, we're running out of midfielders. Becks has a groin strain which makes him a bit questionable, Dyer has a hamstring problem and Butt is still getting back to full fitness after his ankle injury.

My point is that as unlikely a selection as any them are, they are preferable to Heskey. Heskey is plain awful. Of course if Vassell were fit, maybe Heskey would not have gotten the nod.

It would be nice to see Jansen get another look for selection.

  • Heskey is not 'awful', his goal scoring record is terrible, but he's always capable of unsettling defenders, making space for the other attackers and finding his team mates, in particular little Mickey. That's why Sven picks him, and why the other players are always backing him.

  • I was shocked to see Ian Walker there, he's crap. I think Sven's turning into a Keegan/Hoddle.

But saying that, Sven will almost certainly go with Heskey against Macedonia from the start, with Rooney coming off the bench.

Well, one can but hope i suppose.
I don't mean to slag off Heskey, but it is painfully obvious a change is needed.

    As for the result.
Would a draw be a disaster?

OK, he hasn't a proper left sided player in front of him (I hear Barry and Alan Thompson are English), but he often just bombs forward without a thought.

    Aye, i agree.
I'd say give young Bridge a chance-but i don't think he's much of an improvement to tell the truth.

Make or break time for Lampard.

  • Walker is alright but Id rather see Richard wright in the squad.

That being said though, don't you think it's about time to give something elsea try?

    Owen--Beattie?

  • Even without Paul Scholes' never-ending dry spell I would say definitely yes. We need two goal scoring strikers as we're far too reliant on little Mickey, and apparent from Rooney the other striker options wouldn't fit as well with him in a partnership.

Roonaldo and Owen are clearly the first choice partnership in the future. But Beattie should be given a chance, certainly against teams like Macedonia and Lichtenstein where the onus is on us to get goals. • I still don't see the obsession with Emile Heskey. This guy isn't even playing much for Liverpool, let alone scoring when he is on the field.

Its time for Sven to dump Emile, and select someone, anyone else. I'd take Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole, Chris Sutton, Matt Jansen, hell, even Kevin Phillips before Heskey.

  • Walker is a bit of a doughnut, I'd love to say that he's improved since he left us, but I haven't seen much evidence of that. But Wright is injured, Kirkland is lacking match practise and we need him in the U-21's for their game against Portugal.

Apart from that, there's not a lot else out there right now. Quite a few promising kids, no one really playing full time in the Premiership though.
