anyone have problems with the name personalization string ?

  • hi all,
    just upgraded this mroning to newest release 4.60.3 and sent a mailing to my subscribers about 10,000 pf them .

    To my horror and then confirmed via a few irate subscribers the mailing got the names all messed up.

    Well actualy it replaced the %PERS_NAME% string with two names Will and Cynthia .

    Where that came from and why that was chosen I have no idea.

    Sent a support ticket but wondering if it was just me that had this problem.

  • I will report, for the sake of the community. Our 12All 4.60.8 appears (cross fingers) to be working. I haven't tested the sequential autoresponders, but mailing to lists appears to be operating normally.

    We did have to force the sendmail path, but we have sent mail out to several of our lower count lists. People are confirming they got the messages including some hit reply and asking questions. I will also say I have setup a test list with an account from Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, Juno and a few other major places and so far its working.

    We are using the new engine in 12All.

    You are correct DoubleSteve as the MTA doesn't modify the personalized data as it doesn't really know what that data may be. An MTA really only touches the headers adding the time and date it received the message and such.

    New 1-2-All is coming out in a couple of minutes that has that bug fixed. Please upgrade your install to 4.60.4 when it is released.


  • I got the same problem but even with this new version 4.60.4, unless I missed updating a file which I don't think happened.


  • This problem has been resolved in the latest version for all the tested installs.

    We were not aware of the issue previously as all of our tests and test installs did not encounter the specific issues. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

    Should you have any further issues please submit a ticket and we can resolve any issues right away for you.

    I think someone at Active Campaign is missing the main issue here.

    We can not run our business and sleep at night when we can not trust the software. We use 12all for mission critical business marketing and there are legal actions that could come from not taking proper care and making sure subscribers can unsubscribe.

    Your software and how it works is the main line of communication for most of us in our business and to I can not tolerate issues that make us look bad with our subscribers. For that reason we have a formal testing program for every upgrade that costs me about $75 as it takes 3 hours to test. Also we do not upgrade unless there is a new feature we really need.

    I have often thought about reselling 12all as my customers could really use it, but I am afraid to. Because if it does not work they will blame me and not you :)

    Frustration in check as Jason the owner is usualy pretty good at getting things straightened out but yet I am still pretty frustrated as of this morning with still no solution pending yet.

    I'll keep you informed if they resolve the issue.

    Lewis I'm a little confused because in your ps you say you are using the old sending engine. 4.60.8 came out Friday afternoon. Did you have problems with that version with the new sending engine or old sending engine?

    I'm just waiting in the wings with my old old version and sending engine till this gets sorted out... so keep us updated :)

  • i'm using the latest version 4.60.7 and i *STILL* have exactly the same issues as described above. this caused a lot of angry calls from our clients.


  • We were hit hard with this bug...even getting blocked by AOL because so many people complained that it was spam. I've upgraded to the latest version and ran a test with 300 emails that works fine...but who knows what will happen with a real live list. I am debating whether to stay with the new engine or go to the old one. If nobody posts that they are still having issues then I guess I'll stick with the new engine


  • I highly recommend using my upgrade method listed under the thread "Easing the upgrade burden" to help avoid missed files. We have not experienced name issues (at least to our knowledge and have run test list emails) but we have experienced problems with 12All failing to send email out. This has occurred with the new 4.60.x version(s) and we haven't changed anything on the dedicated server. We believe we have fixed this with forcing sendmail path, but who knows.

    This is first time we have experienced a rather huge meltdown with 12All.



    Me too I am having terrible problems since upgrading to 4.60.8 . Problem is active campaign tells me it is host related and host tells me it is software related.

    What a terrible loop .

    In the meantim I have a 9700 member mailing trying to go out since Friday and I need to manualy force requeue every 445 minutes .

    But strange enough one version prior did not have this problem and my web host says nothing on there end was changed on the server.

    This is all on top of sending a 15,000 members e-mail and everysingle person received a differently personalized addressed e-mail 8 times.

  • Hi Lewis, I experienced the same problem.

    All the newsletters I sent, used the very first person in my list: Paulito. So everybody received the newsletter with Dear Paulito.
    WORSE: the Send to Friend uses this person's emai as well as the Unsubscribe button.

    We were able to detect the last 2, because that person works here too.

    This is the first time I am using this software, and I am providing this Email marketing service to clients.

    I am most concern because I wonder if Active Campaign KNEW about this issue. Nowhere was mentioned or advice not to use the personalisation tag.

    We have no idea who has unsubscribe, have asked support thru a ticket and all the response is to 'upgrade to the new version'.


  • The issue in this thread was fairly server specific in the nature that it occurred. We readilly provided methods to go back to the old engine along with supporting any issues that occurred.

    We have an extensive testing process for new items such as this along with closed and sometimes public beta testing periods.

    If anyone is still encountering any issues just let us know.


  • Well. we better wait until AC states they have really solved the problems.

    And I don't believe it's got something to do with the MTA - the MTA can only send what is has gotten from the application. The MTA does not change the body contents of email messages or takes out the correct personalization data and replaces them by wrong ones, right?


  • Fellow users, after you upgrade, why not send a test mailing to a test list before you send to 10,000 subscribers?

  • Not to bump an old thread.. but after a delay (involving extensive development and extra-extensive testing) we have released 1-2-All 4.61 that should resolve all the reported issues to date.

    No I am using 4.60.8 with the OLD engine.
    I am afraid to even try the new one after the last fiasco .
    But at this point I can't send anything and I have my host telling me it is 12all and 12all telling me it's my host so right now I am stuck in the mdille as no one is budging.

    Glad I bought Group mail Pro as an alternative a few years ago to be used when I hit a wall like I have now .

  • Unfortunately the erroneus behaviour is not (easily) replicable. At least we've sent multiple (and some big) chunks of test emails without problems - but were still getting these issues when running in productive mode. Maybe there's a strange list settings / address data / MTA / whatever combination triggering the wrong behaviour :confused:
