My Dell XPS 700 Wont Turn On?

  • My computer was working all fine and dandy; no problems at all. Then i left on a 10 day trip. Once i got back i tried to turn it on and it acted like it was gonna turn on, but didnt. It made that sounds like if your trying to power up a lawnmower but you dont pull hard enough. What should i do? any solutions?

  • If there is no single (OK) beep, your PC is not POSTING and won't boot at all. Try resetting CMOS either thru CMOS jumper switch or by removing CMOS battery for at least 30 seconds. Do this w/ PC unplugged.

Then power ON. PC should beep once and prompt you to press F1 to set up BIOS. Just load fail-safe defaults, save and exit. PC will reboot and should be back to normal.

If problem still persists, check whether the noise is coming from PSU fan, cpu fan, CD drive or HDD. A problematic fan or drive could be the cause of problem that is why PC won't start. Usually, if cpu fan fails to reach normal rpm, safety feature on motherboard will activate auto-shutdown.
