Ive had my Goldfish for about 14 months now, I keep him in a filter tank, but he has no other Goldfish in with him. When we first got him he was jet black! Now hes gone totally orange, not a single black speck on him, why is this? Also, he seems to lie on the bottom of the rocks a lot, or in the little artificial plant I have in their. Then I noticed his tail fin is a bit stiff and only moves to one side, so he hardly swims around the tank. Why is this?Hi Lauren, Colouration in Goldfish can be anything from black to silver including brown, olive, yellow, orange, red, gold, white & pink. This is because their pigmentation is extremely unstable& has almost nothing to do with age, light, diet, size, water quality or environment.
Lying on the bottom is a sign the water is not good. You need to be regularly testing for ammonia & nitrite-these need to be zero, also nitrate needs to be 40 or under. Typically a 30% weekly partial water change in a cycled tank using same temperature, treated water will keep your water in excellent condition.i have the same problem! Well not the goldfish part though. I bought my halfmoon beta for atleast 3 1/2 months ago. Exactly 6 weeks ago he stopped eating and something is with his fin. He wont swim around or anything. I took out this mini cave that I loved because i feared it was the cause of the problem. Im afraid hes going to die. :[
I dont know about your fish though. That is really strange how he turned from black to orange. Extremely weird.
Sorry I didnt answer your question, but I just wanted to share.take him to the vet to see what happenWith goldfish they tend to change colors when they are young im not sure why, ive seen black goldfish turn SILVER it looked nice when it was half black half silver, black on the top half and silver on the bottom half. as for the tail i dont know could be genetic defect or due to an accident#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
