Matchday 25: VfL Bochum v BVB [R]
Well, there's not much more I can say about this match starting in about half an hour than it is a "must-win". BVB must win this match. Especially with FCN coming to Dortmund next week.
FCN will be flying high after coming back from two goals down in the final 8 minutes against Frankfurt last night to earn the draw.
Change that. It's not a "must-win", but it is a "must point". We need at least a draw.
Why? Because since Frankfurt blew that two-goal lead and drew with FCN last night, we stay one point ahead of them. Four of the other teams in the relegation battle with us square off against each other. They are Cottbus, who will host Aachen, and Mainz, who will host Bielefeld.
We just cannot afford to lose.
And it won't be made any easier by the fact that Smolarek, Frei, Metzelder, Kehl and Ricken all missed significant training time this past week due to illness (flu).
Smolarek is expected to be available. I've heard rumors that Frei and Metzelder are expected to play too.
Whether the others will be available should be determined right around this time. If I catch it on arena, I'll post.
Kicker predicts Roeber will try a new lineup. Of course, Weidenfeller will stay in goal, but Metzelder will stay out on the right wing (if he can play), with Woerns and Amedick in the center, Kringe on the right, Kehl (if he can play) as sweeper in front of the defense, Degen and Dede would move into midfield, with Tinga remaining as "playmaker" behind the strikers, expected to be Frei and Valdez.
I like that idea, but the problem is they didn't get to train a lot in that lineup.
All we can do is wish for the best with what we have. I'll try to post during the match.
EDIT: I just got a text message from a friend at the stadium in Bochum. Frei IS NOT in the starting lineup. Uh-oh!
WE NEED VALDEZ TO FINALLY COME THROUGH!!!
And we play with nothing from the heart. No fire. No passion. No desire.
That's what's killing us. Like I said after the match, Bochum were not "better" than us. They wanted the points more and outworked us.
Our guys play like they are afraid to get dirty. Like they think they won't get a shower after the match. If it is easy, they win, if they have to work for it, you can bet they will lose.
And the more I see their conduct on the pitch, I think the team didn't quit on BvM earlier in the season. I think they quit on management and each other.
Before this match today, I was convinced we would not be relegated. While I cannot say that anymore, I did see some things today that encouraged me.
As I said, I liked the new formation. I hope the team gets more time to practice in that formation and Roeber sticks with it.
They actually played better than they did against Cottbus last week, but were just as pathetic on the counter-attack.
From what I see, they just need to put any bad feelings they have about management, the club, each other or whatever it is aside and fight for their own professional lives and the fans.
Other than that, this club is going to "football hell........" :(
Weidenfeller did well, but Gekas just got the ball under him.
1-0 Bochum
51st minute. We are pressing again and almost got hit with another counter!!
What the f#ck is it with us and not being able to stop the counterattack!
Our fans are quiet now. The Bochum fans are singing "Dortmund, Dortmund, 2. Liga!!"
Three things in my book.
1) We both suck.
2) We both need to change management. At least you guys have done something. Our people are too stupid to see that management is the problem.
3) If we don't get our shit together RIGHT NOW, you and I both will be able to see our BELOVED BORUSSIAS play at the Playmobilstadion next season.....
WHAT FOR?! IT'S NOT HIS F#CKING FAULT!
Is that all you know??! The team sucks, sack the coach?!!! Get out of here with that crap man??!!!
He's actually got some good ideas! That new formation was damned good today!!!
THE PLAYERS ARE THE ONES WHO SUCK!!!
THEY PLAY LIKE BITCHES!!!
Like they are afraid to get dirty to win a match!!!
But yeah, yeah. Sack the freakin' coach!
NEWS FOR YOU!!! THIS WAS NEVER BVM'S FAULT AND IT ISN'T ROEBER'S EITHER!!!
THIS IS JUST A TEAM OF PUNK ASS BITCHES WHO PLAY LIKE SCARED WOMEN!!!
THIS IS MANAGEMENT'S FAULT!!! NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS!!!
Like you said we need to need this game, we have no choice!
Bochum has been more agressive, but we have been fighting well and have taken some control of the match.
Weidenfeller has made several good saves because of defensive mistakes. Once scene right before halftime is sticking with me. Kehl was literally "hopping mad" at Metzelder and two started jawing. It looked like Kehl thought Metzelder was playing too deep and told him to get forward.
Right after that Metze played a pass forward and SPRINTED into the Bochum side. He got the ball back, and tried to play it to Dede, but Metze's pass was too weak and Bochum knocked it off Dede and out of play. Dede stared at Metze and just shook his head.
WTF is going on with these guys??
I saw two chances that we had. Amedick put a header over the crossbar from a Degen cross and sometime before that, Smolarek was at the top of the area going forward when a Bochum defender made contact.
Smolarek had played the ball forward, but instead of pushing on after the ball, Smolarek f#cking flopped again!!! He did not get the call and we lost the chance!! I almost threw my f#cking drink at the TV!!!
Our guys are giving an effort. You can see the difference in class. Bochum are playing much harder. Bochum are fighting better, but our guys have the talent. Still, Bochum have created the better chances.
Our guys need to up their effort.
Second half about to begin....
BTW, our fans have been FAN-F#CKING-TASTIC!! Singing and supporting the team all the way!!!
Like you said we need to need this game, we have no choice!
What are you talking about?? He's not playing because he's sick! If he's needed for a few minutes later, he may try to play.
He isn't on the bench because someone was selected above him......
83rd minute. Misimovic dances around three of our defenders and puts a pass into the middle where Gekas is uncovered by Metzelder and he headed it past Weidenfeller!
2-0 and for all intents and purposes, this match is done!
One thing. I said BVB were giving an effort. I didn't say they were giving a good effort.
Again, we have guys who look like they are afraid to get their shorts dirty!!
Bochum were not BETTER than us today, but they sure as mother f#cking hell wanted it more!!!!
Cheer for Leverkusen tomorrow in Hamburg.
The back four is Degen, Woerns, Metzelder and Kringe
We are playing with a "Double Six" (Two Sweepers) in midfield in Kehl and AMEDICK!!
Dede is forward in midfield offensive with Tinga playing behind Smolarek and Valdez up front.
And we just almost gave up a goal in the 3rd minute. Gekas was all alone with Weidenfeller and Weidenfeller took the ball right off his feet!!
Nothing from us offensively yet. Bochum has had two shots on Weidenfeller.
The BVB fans are singing and behind the team.
Still 0-0 after five minutes, but Bochum are the aggressors so far.
No surprise, really, I've been thinking the same thing myself for the last hour and half. If we can't beat f**king Cottbus at home and can't muscle up for a trip to Vfl then what odds we'll still be in this league come the end of May? I can't believe I'm saying this, especially when I think back to the Bayern match just a few weeks ago, but where the hell is our next win going to come from? Right now we're lucky to even get a point....
He isn't on the bench because someone was selected above him......
Oh sorry I didn' t know that... I get it now :o
Well, it's already 35 min and still no goals for us :(
We've had some chances.
In the 56th minute, Valdez got a header on the Bochum goal from a Dede free kick and the ball beat the keeper but bounced off the post. No other BVB player was in position to put it in.
In the 63rd minute, Dede played a ball to Kringe in the area. Kringe turned and blasted the ball over the Bochum crossbar.
And in the 65th minute, Valdez worked his way down the right side and past two Bochum, but his shot went just wide.
Still 1-0 Bochum, but our fans have awakened again and are trying to rally on the team.
70th minute.
However, we won't win anything until someone gets through to these players that they have to stop allowing themselves to be outworked in every ********ing match!!!!
THEY PLAY LIKE PUNK ASS BITCHES!!! THE BVB PLAYERS PLAY LIKE BITCHES!!!! LIKE THEY ARE AFRAID TO FIGHT TO WIN!!!!
Does anyone know if that was our fans whistling our team at the end of the match??
Ooops. I hear them now. Most whistled, then some sang, but the majority seemed to whistle!
Weidenfeller said he understands the fans whistling and he doesn't understand the world right now.
They asked him about Roeber and the whole trainer situation and Weidefeller said "I can't say anything, I'm just an employee of this club!"
TELL ME THAT WAS NOT A SHOT AGAINST WATZKE!!!!
Nelson Valdez. What a piece of shit.
Smolarek, Metzelder, Degen and Kehl all sucked too.
We dropped two places today because Mainz and Aachen won. It would have been three places, but Aachen also beat Cottbus 2-0, so we stay ahead on goal difference.
If HSV draws or wins tomorrow at home against Leverkusen, we drop to 13th place, and still 2 points out of the first relegation spot.
Think BVB will still talk about how far we are out of fifth place??
