Does Caroline Kennedy believe her family and name automatically qualify her for senate?

  • I'm not a Kennedy hater, but I'm afraid the answer to this question is yes. There are literally hundreds of thousands who have law degrees from Harvard. Does that make them automatically fit to be a Senator? I know she's done many admirable things. But none of them seem as important to the appointment of Senator as her last name and the name of her uncle Teddy.

  • yes she does

  • more than likely.... just the Bush family and the Clinton family and the Rockefellers and the Onassis family... Hmmm. Did I miss anyone?

  • Well the only reason JFK was popular because he was handsome and had a good looking wife. He never really accomplished anything so yes. By the way- one of Jimmie Carter's stupid kids thought he could walk into Nevada and pick up a Senate seat because of his "famous" name and he lost by a landslide. Good for Nevada.

  • Good question.
    And yes, I believe so.

  • No, I think she considers herself just as qualified as most other possible people interested in this job.

    She is well educated.
She is well informed on the issues.
She is able to call upon many, many people for advice.
She appears at any rate to have no skeletons in her closet.

So yes- she is just as qualified as anyone else looking for the job,

  • Seeing as she has been active in Democrat politics for some time and has more influential names in her Rolodex then most Senators, I think she is more than qualified.

It is not that hard to be a Senator.

  • Nepotism pay, as does basking in the liberal bastion known as HARVARD - as if paying to read books makes you somehow more intellectual.

  • Well . . she would be right to believe that . . because she is qualified based not only on her unique experiences as a Kennedy surrounded by family public service but also because she is a Harvard attorney, writer, editor, and public servant herself. She'll be excellent. More than qualified.

  • Watch and see if it doesnt. Sigh.

  • no but maybe she feels that her law degree from Harvard does.

  • Oh, well thats the way the cookie crumbles.

  • Bush was the Republicans poster child
    who failed this country
At least Caroline Kennedy has a kennedy veins in her genes

  • You mean being a Kennedy doesn't make you an anointed one?

It must, why else would a murder like Ted Kennedy have been a senator so long?

  • Actually, I think she got a BA in journalism, and because a sportscaster. Doesn't that make her more qualified?

  • Caroline Kennedy has zero political experience. None at all. If the left and the media doesn't discuss this at great length like they did with Sarah Palin will you be surprised?

  • Were she not a Kennedy, would she be taken seriously. Lot's of people are in politics and lots of people are lawyers.

Why do we, what should be a citizen's Republic, permit dynasties?

  • She never wanted to be in politics before. Now all of a sudden it's urgent. Hmmm.

  • yes she does,part of the blessed/cursed family !

  • No I don't think so, although a long family history of serving the country is nothing to be ashamed of, we are always talking about getting new people in, shes new in office, but not in the political world, shes also a constitutional scholar and a very well educated lawyer.
I don't know if you have ever seen her interviewed, but shes no mental lightweight.
We could do worse, and at least there has never been scandal attached to her name.
I've read versions of this question all day, and all I can say is that given what senators and congresspeople go through, the innuendos and slurs and lies, the invasion of privacy its not a comfy job. Its a lot of hard work and not much ease.
Someone is always out to get you. Not too many good people are even interested in the job anymore, all we get are the career pols.
I'd like to see her in, maybe she can start a trend. Intelligent, capable people working for the common good.
Telling someone of her caliber that she shouldn't run because her family has been active in politics seems pretty stupid.

  • No but her experience as an attorney and an executive for a few large non profits probably does.
